Dear Coach Bullough,

I was stunned today to read about George Webster, as I opened my SPARTAN in anticipation of exciting stories about this years promising football team, and still basking in the glow if the great victory over Notre Dame. I’m flooded with football memories from my four years at State from 1962 to 1966, from Duffy Daugherty, to George Saimes, Sherman Lewis, and those 1965 and 1966 teams with Bubba Smith, Steve Juday, Clinton Jones, Gene Washington, Don Japinga and, of coarse, No. 90, George Webster. I can still picture a tackle he made against Purdue thwarting a third and short, and a monstrous hit against Michigan in Ann Arbor. More than the on field memories, I recall a friendly fellow student who also happened to be an All- American.

I treasure my undergraduate degree at Michigan State. Although I’ve since gone on to two graduate degrees at other universities, my heart and loyalty remain at State. Recently, I’ve been stricken with multiple sclerosis, but I’m still able to work and hobble around with a cane.

Thank you for letting me ramble on... I’ve enclosed a small check for the George Webster Fund, and pray that he is able to maintain a reasonable quality of life. Please convey my regards to George and tell him that my thoughts are with him. And, thank you for your thoughtful caring and support.

Sincerely,

Marc R. Rose
