George was often heard saying, “Being at Michigan State was the best years of my life.”  Obviously, Michigan State played a pivotal role in George’s life and he thought long and hard about how he could give something substantial back to his alma mater.  George felt this scholarship fund could play a pivotal role in other athlete’s lives by helping them obtain their degrees after their scholarship eligibility was over.  For those athletes who did not go on to the NFL,  NBA or the next level of competition in their sport, having an undergraduate degree from MSU is something that would help them support their family, attain their potential and would be with them for the rest of their lives.

George loved MSU, which in his later years he called his home away from home.  He enjoyed being around his old teammates, his coaches and all the fans that showed up to support him every time he was in town.  As a Spartan student/athlete, George contributed greatly on and off the field.  His final legacy was to establish the George Webster Scholarship Fund as a way to help ex-MSU student/athletes return to school to finish their degrees, just as he did.

George received many awards and accolades during his career.  He had the privilege of seeing his number retired and has been hailed as one of MSU’s greatest football players of all time.  However, no award or accolade meant more to George than the night he appeared on the MSU Basketball court to announce the kick off of the George Webster Scholarship Fund.    This was George’s final gift to MSU’s athletes.  He felt so strongly about this endeavor that he left a significant amount of his estate to help support this fund.  With the help of his teammates and other supporters we can keep George’s dream alive by giving to the George Webster Scholarship Fund.
