George Webster was unique in more ways then just being the "greatest Spartan football player ever".
Mickey, as he was known by teammates and coaches was a leader by example. As the defensive backfield coach I considered Mickey my "rock" on defense. If we wanted to stop a particular receiver opponent George was able to do that with excellence. The three teams we played with the best passing offenses were Notre Dame, Purdue and
Mick also helped keep some rambunctious players on an even keel. If I told him a player was causing a problem he'd say something to him and we had no more trouble.
But most of all Mick was a gentleman and a good soul. We miss him.
